Algorithm: a collage inspired by Arcimboldo's paintings & repurposing advertising leaflets
Algorithm 1.Take some advertising catalog (e.g. supermarket), the ones that you usually find in yout mailbox 2.Cut out a number of items (e.g. vegetables, fruits, etc.) and put them on a bowl. Try to choose items more or less the same sizes. 3. Decide your subject. E.g. composing a face, but any other subjects are OK 4. Make a list of the parts that compose the work, the order is not important (e.g. in the case of a face: the right eye, the left eye, the nose, the mounth, the ceeks, the hair, the tie, the hat, etc...) 5. Take a piece of paper or cardboard as support 6. Repeat: a.Declare which part you of your work you want to work with (e.g. right eye) b.Randomly pick one cutout from the bown (should be random, do not cheat!) c.Use it to complete the part of the work you declared, gluing it into the paper Until all cutout pieces are finished Note that deciding in advance the number of pieces affect the final result. Using too many pieces for a detail may result of not having enough for finishing the work. Even if you cut out too many pieces, you should use them all. The part of the work on which you want to work with should be declared before picking a random piece, you are allowed to use as many cutouts you want for a single part. The declared part of work should be clear and not anbiguous. Alternative: you can directly use (pieces of) fresh vegetables! NOTE: this algorithm is inspired by the works of the Italian artist Arcimboldo, known for his fruit compositions (in the photo it is shown the "reversible" painting "L'ortolano o Ortaggi in una ciotola", dated 1590)
