Individually coloring the layers and mirroring some of the layers.
Original & copy of Degas' combing girl. I even copied the signature. The copy was created by separately painting twenty mono-colored layers using the mouse in a very quick and coarse way, using different sized pencils and each time focussing onto different shapes or shaded of the picture. The color used was chosen from the original picture. Afterwards I combined the layers with 30% transparency. The picture on the right only consists of those twenty colors plus one light brown background merged together.
Different stages of the process. I individually colored the 20 layers and used different modes of merging together.
Two modes of perception
By strictly separating layers with outlines and with shades I could rotate and mirror them differently and create this effect.
